What it is
The App Index is a complete list of every area of the application, grouped the same way the sidebar is. Expand a group to see what is in it, and click any entry to go straight there.
Nothing is ever hidden from this page because of a preference. It is the map. If it only showed the areas you had already switched on, you would have to remember that something existed in order to find it again — so everything your organization can use is always listed here, whether or not it is in your sidebar.
Choosing what is in your sidebar
Each entry has a switch:
- ★ in nav — the page appears in your sidebar.
- ☆ add to nav — it does not. It is still reachable from this page, from search, and from any link to it.
Whole groups have the same switch, so you can put an entire area of the product out of the way in one click. Turning a group off does not touch the individual choices inside it: if you later switch one page back on by hand, that page stays on even though its group is off.
Switching something off never removes your access — it only tidies your sidebar. A link, a bookmark, a search result or a colleague's deep link still opens the page normally.
Desktop and mobile
Anything that is on shows two tick boxes, desktop and mobile, both ticked to begin with. Untick one and the page stays in your sidebar on the other.
This is worth using: a wide administrative table earns its place on a large screen and is close to unusable on a phone, while a short approvals queue is the opposite.
Unticking both boxes is not the same as switching the entry off. The switch is the blunt instrument; the boxes are per-device. If you untick both and later tick one again, the other stays as you left it.
Areas marked "not in your plan"
Some entries are listed but marked not in your plan and have no switch. Those are add-on modules your organization is not licensed for.
They are shown rather than hidden on purpose — this page is the product's map, and an add-on nobody can see is an add-on nobody can ask for. If one would be useful, an administrator can arrange it; there is nothing you can switch on yourself, because this is a licensing question rather than a display one.
These choices are yours
Every switch on this page is per person. Changing yours does not change anyone else's sidebar, and an administrator does not need to be involved.
Your choices are stored with your account rather than in the browser, so they follow you to another computer and survive clearing your browser data.
A few areas start switched off by default — the ones most organizations do not use day to day. That is only a starting point, not a judgement about your work: switch on whatever you need, and it stays on.
The numbers beside an entry
Where the app can tell, an entry shows how much is in that section:
- a number — that many records exist;
- 0 — the section is genuinely empty;
- — — the count could not be loaded just now. It is not zero, and it is not a claim about your data;
- nothing at all — this section does not report a count.
The distinction matters: a section showing 0 is telling you it is empty, while one showing — is telling you it does not know.
